“Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate”
- J.R.R. Tolkien
Through layering canopies and a strong schematic design, what was once a collection of noncontiguous spaces became a cohesive landscape of wandering paths, plant beds, and outdoor living areas.
“For we put the thought of all that we love into all that we make.”
-J.R.R. Tolkien
Stirred by the client’s fondness for Lord of the Rings, we transformed an otherwise non-descript suburban yard into a splendid display of wood, stone, metal, and 100 (edible, drinkable, medicine making) plants. Celebrating the client’s love of food we created abundant opportunities for gleaning and foraging, outdoor rooms for gathering around the outdoor kitchen, and sharing food with friends. The love of food doesn’t stop at humans; pollinator plants are placed throughout the design, recognizing the important role of creatures that are an integral part of our food system.
