The clients’ history of living in Japan and eye for art helped guide design decisions to create a unique landscape sensitive to the Willamette Valley environment while integrating components of a Japanese landscape in the work. We viewed this project as an opportunity to create a layered, dynamic, and finely detailed outdoor living area that offered depth and directed views of the landscape surrounding the home to make every turn an interesting experience.

This project was initiated through our long standing relationship with a local builder with the home already sited and left little room for landscape spaces on a narrow hillside lot. The client’s desire to define the public/private interface led to nuanced design details to clearly define the private elements, while simultaneously creating an outstanding entry experience.
